We are FOCUS1000The First 1000 Days of a child's life starts from conception

FOCUS 1000 is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Sierra Leone that invests in the first 1000 days of a child’s life – the period from conception to the child’s second birthday. During this crucial period, the child is susceptible to life-threatening illnesses and conditions such as diarrhea, malaria, malnutrition, pneumonia, and HIV.

The first 1000 days period is often referred to as the golden window of opportunity because the:

  • Child’s brain and cognitive functions develop to almost 80% by age two;
  • Investments made during this period have an everlasting impact on the child’s likelihood to survive, thrive, and become a productive member of society;
  • Return-on-investment yielded from the first 1000 days is invaluable, and the associated effects are largely irreversible.

We have therefore prioritized three key intervention areas:

  1. Maternal and Child Nutrition
  2. Teenage Pregnancy
  3. Utilization of Services
